On October 21, Chen Xunqiu, Party Secretary and Executive Vice President of the China Law Society, visited Tianjin University.
During the reception meeting, Chen Xunqiu approved Tianjin University’s efforts in cultivating law talents. He said that as the first modern university in China, Tianjin University also pioneered in setting up the law major. “I learnt that the first university graduate diploma in China was issued by Peiyang University (now Tianjin University) and was given to a law student.” Chen hoped that in future, Tianjin University’s Law School could play a bigger role in the China Law Society in terms of legal education and research.
Li Jiajun, Party Secretary of Tianjin University, expressed sincere welcome to Chen Xunqiu. He introduced the history and disciplinary characteristics of Tianjin University and the law school. He said that Tianjin University had established the discipline layout of “enhancing engineering and strengthening science, invigorating literature and promoting medicine”. Li considered Chen’s visit as an encouragement to the construction of law discipline at Tianjin University.
Sun Youhai, Dean of the Law School introduced Chen to the School’s achievements in discipline construction, faculty recruitment, scientific research, international exchanges and social services. He specifically introduced the development of Tianjin University’s Chinese Green Development Research Institute, the Supreme People's Court Environmental Damage Judicial Appraisal Research Base, the Supreme People's Procuratorate Procuratorial Theory Research Center and the Chinese Intelligent Rule of Law Research Institute.
Before the meeting, Chen and his entourage visited the law school History Museum.
