Supreme People’s Court Forensic Science Base of Environmental Damage (the Base) was established in November 2016 under the dual leadership by Supreme People’s Court Environmental Resource Division and TJU. The base carries out prospective, basic and applicable research for the purposes of “national priority, distinctive characteristics, systematic innovation, and development leadership” with fundamental tasks including the promotion of the innovation ability of “resolution consultation, talent cultivation, scientific research and discipline construction” under the guidance of major decision-making consultation for the Party and the state environmental justice theory with the dependence on the main judicial services of important regional environmental resources.
Professor Sun Youhai, TJU Law School Dean and the Executive Dean of Green Development Research Institute of China, is the Base Director. Zhang Hua, the Presiding Judge of the Environmental Resources of the Supreme People’s Court is its Deputy Director. More than twenty experts and scholars in the field of environmental damage research are its researchers.
Since its establishment, the Base has focused on hot, difficult and doubtful issues of the environmental damage forensic science. It constantly enhances the level of research by providing functions such as the theoretical research, academic exchanges, decision-making consultations, social services, etc. With constant efforts, its work has gone well with some breakthroughs in the key areas.
